Cost

What solar costs on a Los Angeles roof

Two houses on the same street can price far apart. A clay tile roof takes longer than shingle, and an older main panel may need replacing. So we price your house, and you see every part of the number.

What moves the number

Checked October 2026
  • Your roofTile raises it

Clay and concrete tile need a hook and new flashing at every mount, with each tile lifted and reset by hand. Flat roofs take low tilted racks. Shingle is the quickest to work on.

  • System sizePer watt falls

We size it to your last 12 months of bills. The fixed costs spread over more panels, so the price per watt usually drops as the system grows.

  • Your main panelIf needed

If it can't take the new breaker, it needs an upgrade. You see that line before you sign.

Show 3 more
  • A batteryOptional

Added as a line of its own, never folded into the system price.

  • An older roofIf needed

If the roof won't outlast the panels, we say so before you sign and price the panel removal and reinstall for when the re-roof comes.

  • Distance to the panelA little

A long run from the roof to your main panel means more conduit and wire.

Batteries

Price it with a battery and without one

The battery goes on your written price as a separate line, so you see both totals before you decide.

Suits you ifYou want the bill down and can sit out an outage. You want power through outages, or you use a lot after sunset.

Why the gap differs by utility. On Edison, solar exported at midday earns a lower credit than power costs between 4 and 9 in the evening, and stored power covers those hours. On LADWP, exports are credited against your own bill, so a battery there is mostly outage cover.

How it works

Your number, from first price to final bill

Our own crew does the roof work and the wiring, so the company that prices your job is the one that builds it. The number can move at one point: the roof check. Even then, the reason comes in writing.

Questions

Before you ask for a price

Something we haven't answered here? Call and ask. Have last month's bill handy if you can.

Call (310) 857-2520
Do I have to meet a salesperson to get the price?

No. Send the address, roughly what your bill runs and a mobile number. We lay the panels out from aerial imagery and your usage, and the price comes to your phone with nobody visiting. Someone comes out only if you want to go ahead, to check the roof before the final design.

Can the price change after the roof check?

It can, and you get the reason in writing before you sign. Three things move it: roof repair the panels need first, a main panel that can't take the new breaker, or a mounting spot we couldn't see from above.

Cash or monthly: which costs less over the years?

Cash, almost always, because no interest or lease margin sits on top. Monthly suits you if you'd rather keep the money in the bank. Your price shows the total for each route, so you can see the gap in dollars.

Is a tax credit taken off my price?

No. The price is the full amount you pay, with nothing subtracted for a credit. If you expect one, confirm it with your tax preparer before you count on it.

Is the permit fee in the price?

No. The city charges it, and you pay it to the city directly. You have the amount in writing before the permit goes in.

What does a battery add to my price?

It goes on a line of its own, naming the maker, the model and the circuits it keeps running. Compare the two totals, and leave it off if the gap isn't worth it to you.

My roof needs replacing soon. What then?

Tell us when you ask for the price. If the new roof goes on first, we install on it. If it comes later, we price taking the panels off and putting them back, so you know that cost before you sign.
