- LADWP and EdisonEvery house priced by its own utility's rules.
- Cash beside monthlyBoth on your price, each with its total.
- Los Angeles CountyThe Westside, Central LA, the Valleys, the South Bay and the San Gabriel Valley.
A solar price turns on the roof and the main panel, and on the utility that sends your bill. An online calculator sees none of that. We price your house from its own roof and 12 months of its bills, and the figure reaches you in writing before anyone visits.
What goes on the roof
- All-black panels from Qcells or Silfab
- Enphase IQ8 microinverters, one under each panel, so shade on one panel doesn't pull down the others
- Rails and clamps on flashed mounts, at each point where the array is fixed to the roof
- Conduit and wire down to your main panel, and the breaker the system needs there
Your roof changes the work
Clay and concrete tile take the most time and raise a price the most. Each mount needs a tile hook and new flashing, with the tiles around it lifted and set back by hand.
Composition shingle is the quickest to work on. A flat roof takes low tilted racks that angle the panels toward the sun.
If the roof won't outlast the panels, we say so before you sign, and price taking them off and putting them back for when the re-roof comes. Solar panel removal and reinstall explains that job.

Sized to your bills, priced for your utility
We size the system to your last 12 months of usage.
The utility changes what the numbers mean. On Edison, power you send back at midday earns a lower credit than power costs between 4 and 9 in the evening, which is why a battery is worth pricing there. On LADWP, what you send back is credited against your own bill. Ask for both and your price shows solar alone and solar plus a battery, each with its total.
How the job goes
- Your written price, by the next business day. We lay the panels out from aerial imagery and your bills, and set the cash price beside the monthly payment.
- The roof check, once you want to go ahead. We walk the roof and open the main panel. If either changes the job, the new figure and the reason come to you in writing before anything is signed.
- You sign, and the price is fixed. The contract carries the figure and the parts list you approved.
- We install it. The mounts go in first, and the wiring to your main panel last.
- After the city's inspection, your utility gives permission to operate and the system is switched on.
- Your final bill matches the price you signed.
What moves the price
- Your roof: tile raises it, and shingle is the quickest
- System size: the price per watt usually falls as the system grows
- Your main panel, when it needs an upgrade to take the new breaker
- The distance from the roof to the main panel, which sets the length of conduit and wire
- A battery, if you add one, as a line of its own
- An older roof, if the panels will need to come off for a re-roof
What your written price shows
- The cash price, as one figure
- The monthly payment, with the lender, the rate and the term named
- The price per watt, to set beside other quotes
- The maker and model of each part, panels and inverters included
Not every payment route is open at every address. Your price lists the ones your house can use, each with its total over the years.
How long it's covered
- Our workmanship: 25 years on each mount, conduit run and connection we put in
- Roof penetrations: 10 years. If a mount we installed leaks, we fix the leak and the damage under it, unless someone else has worked on that part of the roof since.
- Panels and the IQ8 microinverters: 25 years on their makers' terms. The racking carries its maker's 25 years too.
- If a part fails, we file the claim with the maker and do the swap. Selling the house? These terms pass to the next owner.
Questions about solar installation
Will the panels stand out on the roof?
They are all-black, frames and backsheets included, and they sit low on the roof. From the street the array reads as one dark patch.
Is the permit fee in the price?
No. The city charges it, and you pay it to the city directly. You have the amount in writing before the permit goes in.
Is a tax credit taken off my price?
No. The price is the full amount you pay, with nothing subtracted for a credit. If you expect one, confirm it with your tax preparer before you count on it.
